Inspiration
One of our devs wanted to get rid of all social media apps for a time being but found it hard to do so while keeping in contact with her friends, especially those she only knew only from certain websites. While she could just give everyone her phone number, this would be both a laborious process and a privacy concern. So, she came up with the idea for io.box that would free users from compromising on freeing themselves from distraction or digital isolation.
What it does
io.box is an aggregator for your social media inboxes, so that you can still have access to your network without its other distracting features like feeds and targeted content and advertisements. Other features would include ability to control when and how notifications come in.
How I built it
AdobeXD to prototype the application, with Zeplin to attempt to translate the design into React Native code.
Challenges I ran into
Twitter API support, the conversion of AdobeXD to React Native was more bare-bones than we expected.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Even though we were work on the back-end, we came up with a lot of iterations to perfect the front-end
What I learned
Start set-up before the hackathon, testing programs before we extensively use them in the development process.
What's next for io.box
More features to increase digital well-being and giving users more control of their notifications, such as Do Not Disturb periods and whitelists.
Built With
