Inspiration

With the steady rise of the student population, McMaster's solution to the issue lies in the Ultra JAKT. A four-in-one system, this transfurniture supports the needs of a desk, night stand, chair, and laundry hamper to both minimize space and increase the efficiency of any student dormitory it's placed in.

What it does

A chair, bed desk, night stand, and storage room all in one, this transfurniture provides the best of all worlds when it comes to functionality and efficiency. Easily converts into any of the above, this invention makes a healthy balance between studies and relaxation possible.

How we built it

All starting with the idea of minimizing space by targeting smaller and less permanent components of a student dormitory, lists of compact essential furniture was brainstormed. Followed by several initial sketches, prototypes, and 3D models, our final rendering featured the combination as presented.

Challenges we ran into

Generating implementable ideas within the dorm environment, meaning something small, inexpensive, and easy to integrate, was a very difficult task. Creating an easy enough user interface for college students to use was the root of many of our problems. Several revisions and even completely different designs were considered while looking for easy and "snappable" components, which ultimately led to this final design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We also pride ourselves in the compactness and feasibility of our designs, choosing to look into practicality rather than flashiness. Some may say "the less, the better."

What we learned

Steps through the design process allowed an internal look at the several revisions required to come to a final project that a team can be satisfied with. Being able to implement all of the team's ideas and come to a conclusion that fulfilled all of our needs both personally, and for the project statement.

What's next for JAKT

Looking to the future, we hope to begin implementation in student dormitories, providing efficiency for students. In addition, we look forward to continual revision as we take feedback from students to enhance our designs and final projects.
