Inspiration
We wanted to use EMG signals to interact in VR! The goal was to build a device that lets you interact in VR with your hands instead of a controller. A jellyfish blobbed up in our collective consciousness and we were compelled by it—and so began Jellax.
What it does
Jellax is a physical therapy solution composed of a VR application and a wearable device that uses EMG sensors to detect muscle use. Jellax lets people control the movement of a jellyfish in VR by opening and closing their hand. Imagine peacefully blobbing around in the ocean, moving your physical body yet distanced from your injury. Real-time feedback encourages people to continue moving and strengthening their muscles.
Jellax lets people work in partnership with their physical therapists, who are able to adjust exercise recommendations and motion parameters.
How we built it
The wearable device consists of a custom-built EMG sensor and haptic feedback.
Challenges we ran into
Thirty year old operational amplifiers were difficult to work with!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got it working!!!! We committed!
What we learned
How to use Git rebase.
What's next for Jellax
We’re going to get dinner, sleep, and keep blobbing.
