Inspiration

Our inspiration for creating JobGenie comes from our wish to empower prospective job applicants with the tools and resources they need to succeed in their job hunt. We understand that the job application process can be overwhelming and time-consuming, and we want to make it as easy and stress-free as possible.

What it does

JobGenie is able to help users generate resume templates, generate personal professional resumes, discover your strengths by listing out your activities, explore career options and alternatives, and practice responding to interview questions. It offers career help to prospective job applicants from multiple angles.

How we built it

We built JobGenie by first experimenting and gaining access to the ChatGPT API, integrating ChatGPT with our telegram bot, and conducting tests to solve issues and improve its performance.

Challenges we ran into

Our original intention was to create a web app named JobGenie capable of offering career help with ChatGPT. However, since the ChatGPT model is not currently available through an open API for direct integration into apps, we spent a lot of time trying and experimenting, wishing to find a way to access the model and successfully integrate it into our app or website. All of our attempts were unsuccessful, so we had to change plans midway, creating a telegram bot with the same purpose instead.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When we faced difficulties and temporary failures, we never gave up, and instead tried our best to think of alternatives. In the end, we thought of the idea to implement a telegram bot to overcome the challenges faced. Since telegram is one of the primary channels of communication for Singaporeans, we are able to reach a large basis of target audiences and help them with their job applications.

What we learned

We had opportunities to experiment with the newest trending technology ChatGPT. We also learned about implementing ChatGPT and programming a telegram bot. Besides the technical aspects, we also developed our problem-solving skills, self-learning skills, resilience, and time management given the tight timeline.

What's next for JobGenie

We wish to create a community feature for JobGenie, in the form of perhaps a telegram channel, where prospective job applicants can connect with others to share advice, feedback and tips. We believe that a supportive community can provide a valuable source of motivation and inspiration during the stressful job search process.
