Inspiration
I love fractals and have done for many years, generating them in new and different ways is always fun.
What it does
Generates a julia set fractal image based on the given input parameters.
How we built it
I built it by smashing my face into the RIDE editor for hours until eventually I hit enough symbols that the program worked.
Challenges we ran into
APL sucks... managing multidimensional arrays, no nice way to define functions and many other barriers proved very frustrating / difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Recognising where my project was becoming too complex and making conscious decisions not to implement certain features, this allowed me to confidently achieve my goal and not end up panic writing till the end of the submission window.
What we learned
APL can be incredibly elegant when it is given the right use case, e.g. transforming the output of my step function into a greyscale colour was incredibly easy, using the diaresis character which provides the map operation.
What's next for JuliAPL
Implementing colour fractal generation, possibly by reading a colour map format. Smoothing the program output so it is more aesthetically pleasing.
