Inspiration
There was a need for effectively handling and managing membership data in the church. Using physical records was a problem that needed a solution. In the Qubators service unit in our church organization, we had a meeting consisting of 5 developers and decided that we would find a way to automate this task.
What it does
For different branches of the church, each branch gets one account access to the website and a different section of the database. In a particular branch, the admin can keep track of all the members his branch of the church, how much offerings was given, how much tithes were given and can update this data easily.
How we built it
We built it using React,Vite and Redux for the front end and flask, python and MongoDB for the backend. We had a very talented webdesigner who drew up the first design months ago. There was no front end developer at the time present in the church until I joined few months ago and transformed his design into reality.
Challenges we ran into
We needed a place to host our servers and database, as we were (are) not backed by the church financially. We searched far and wide until we came across render and railway
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Under 3 months of constant hardwork, exhausting meetings and endless updates to the design of the app, we produced a demo website that we are proud of that we presented to the higher ups. Although we have not gotten any feedbacks but we are positive that we will get a positive response.
What we learned
As for me, we all learned what it was like to be part of a team of passionate developers, we got a feel of what it was like to work and constantly communicate with people working with different schedules. At some point, we came to understand the advantage React has over other libraries; react can enable users navigate to other pages without reloading the page - just like a mobile app does. It was exhausting but I enjoyed every second. Enjoyed? I hope I continue to enjoy more as I am optimistic that we are just beginning our journey of the Kings Record Web App.
What's next for Kings Record Application
Well? As soon as we get recognized for our work and receive some sort of funding in any way, we plan to add more functionality to the app like being able to have data on every single member and being able to manage that data dynamically in the app. We also want to add a premium section of the app.
