Inspiration

GapWWIB is at its core a social hack. It was designed with Gap's identity--timeless basics--as a centerpiece of our campaign. The campaign allows customers to showcase their creativity while increasing interest in Gap--a true long term expansion campaign. Our tool brings Gap to the forefront of social media.

How it works

GapWWIB consists of two contest, a monthly regional and an annual worldwide contests. Through Instagram and our custom webscraper, MySQL database, and carefully crafted bootstrap websites, we make it easy for both users and employees to easily participate, vote, and judge these contests. While the tech elements have a background element, they are essential to a viral success.

Challenges I ran into

We had three major challenges. With our front-end, we had major trouble with PHP and bootstrap compatibility along with getting Instagram embeds to display and format. With our backend, the web-scraper took a lot of time and manpower to create. However, we solved all of these problems as a team.

What I learned

Our team had a limited knowledge of bootstrap coming into this competition. In addition, we struggled to understand MySQL and Instagram API's. We had to take time to educate ourselves with these programs, as well as creating more familiarity with several languages: PHP, HTML, and CSS.

What's next for #GapWWIB

This project can easily be translated to all of the Gap clothing lines, but more importantly a smooth and simple framework for any Instagram based social media campaign. #GapWWIB will become the next #OOTD, becoming a house-hold name for anyone in the fashion community.
