Inspiration

World Hunger is a problem which has been around since many ages. So to overcome this, we thought of a solution through a Mobile App to help the needy people near you to get food from hotels or people who are willing to donate nearby.

Some hotels by the end of the day, have enough food left to feed at-least 10-25 people.But sometimes a huge quantity of it goes to waste. Even at houses, there are leftovers after a person has finished eating or a family might have cooked extra food by mistake or other reasons.

What it does

So tackle the above problem and help the needy people get food and thus contributing towards erdicating world hunger, Leftoverz is a great app for towards it. This app can also act as a platform for you to meet new friends when you share the food or save the food. Thus it would also help you increase your connections and make the whole world a better place. That's why Laughter is in the best place where food is at.

How we built it

The app was designed using Adobe Xd, Some illustrations downloaded from freepik.com, Icons from icons8.com. The app was developed using facebook's open source platform react-native which can be used to develop Native Mobile apps for Android as well as iOS. Some of the icons were also used as vector images from https://docs.expo.io/guides/icons/

Challenges we ran into

The most tiresome one was the firebase authentication for us. We couldn't figure out the social logins so a email and password login was used basically. Some of the images were being pixelated and they had to be re-exported from Adobe Xd.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The overall User Interface of the app keeping in mind the minimalism touch to be given to it. The Authentication which works :) The Thumbnail Designed and Illustrations edited were some interesting parts of the project.

We learnt the basics of coding in React Native. Using Adobe Xd for complex designs. How to use firebase authentication How to use google location apis

What's next for Leftoverz - Bon Hacketit 2020

Add extra features like share to social media and more. Add Social login feature. Get in touch with hotels nearby and get them onboard with the app. Build the app for iOS also.
