Inspiration
Growing up around people who've struggled in their pursuit of adapting to languages and cultures different from their native land inspired us to create Lexify, an app designed to make the transition easier.
What it does
Our app utilizes Generative OCR to create fast translations and explanations for words selected by the user. After reviewing the meanings, personalized flashcards and quizzes are automatically generated to really make the new words sink into the user's memory. Users can also reference an easily accessible dictionary of all the words they have scanned along with their translations and definitions in their daily lives.
How we built it
Enhancing user experience, we utilized React Native along with the Gemini 1.5 Flash API to create our app.
Challenges we ran into
Since we were using React Native without Expo, we could not use LiveShare to collaborate, resulting in us using Github merges, which often lead to many errors each time we tried combing our programs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of successfully creating our functional app, which has a very user friendly interface. We are especially proud of the functionality and accuracy of our AI OCR implementation.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively collaborate upon a project, despite being faced with tremendous hurdles such as merge errors.
What's next for Lexify
We plan to add many more languages to our current databank as well as successfully publish our app to the IOS app store, offering towards marginalized communities.
