Local Hack Day

Problem

Currently, clubs and organizations at UMD relay the majority of their events through either Facebook, OrgSync, or an email service. However, in the instance of Facebook and an email service, follower’s feeds are cluttered with information that isn’t directly relevant to UMD associated groups. In addition, to view a group’s information, a user must click on each group one at a time before they are able to view announcement and events. Therefore, the accumulated issue is that there’s no central location to view UMD events, enabling a portal to access information rather than a community based system to meet others with the same interests.

Intended Solution

Sticking to the goal of making UMD a stronger community, our goal is to engage students directly with events that are associated with clubs and interests as opposed to accessing individual clubs in their own regard to discover what they are planning. Our feed system displays events that are associated with the tags and clubs and you are following, allowing you to engage with a wider community both within the club and related clubs, as related events will be listed in a users feed.
