Inspiration

I have been recently interested in learning how to use Discord's API to create a working, useful bot. I heard of the challenge from Goldman Sachs to utilize their own API in any way I saw fit. Then, I got the idea of learning both APIs and using them together to make a useful tool.

What it does

Sends data into Discord from Marquee API using commands from a Discord bot.

How I built it

Using node.js, I utilized Marquee and Discord APIs to work together to send data relevant to the given bot command.

Challenges I ran into

I had almost no experience in Node.js as well as no prior knowledge of Marquee API as well as Discord API. Most of the 36 hours were spent through vigorous trial and error and extensive documentation reading.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I successfully initialized MarqueeBot and can call data from Marquee using a Discord command

What I learned

I learned that Node.js is really hard with no prior knowledge.

What's next for MarqueeBot

MarqueeBot has infinite capabilities. With more time and research, I can implement live coronavirus case updates/counters. Also, MarqueeBot can come to accept more dynamic searches and commands of coronavirus related data from a wide array of datasets.
