Pain Point

Words are important, and they are life or death in the medical setting. However, there can be many barriers to effective communication. Some are chronic, like non-verbal autism. Some are acute, like pain from a sprained ankle. Some are lingual or cultural, like being in a foreign country. Either way, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Devices can be a great way to bridge that gap.

However, the problem is that they are expensive, cumbersome, and inflexible. Some can even cost hundreds of dollars.

Vision

Our vision is to create a communication board software that anyone and everyone can use, specifically tailored for medical applications with high customizability, that doctors and nurses will feel compelled to recommend. Our purpose is to augment the patient medical provider relationship with technology, empowering the disadvantaged with a simple to use web application.

Solution

Our solution is a Next.JS web app with a Gemini API integration deployed on Vercel. It utilizes react components, react icons, tailwind for styling, and is designed with mobile, web, and print in mind.

Usage is simple, starting with a 10 question form, where you provide information about your personal medical needs, with options for custom answers of any length allowing you to provide anywhere from simple information, to extensive paragraphs.

We take that information to generate a patient specific tab, which you can reset at any moment using the new cards button. You are able to edit, drag and drop, and add new cards to the custom page at any time, along with being able to reset and restart the process. You can also print out the medboard, enable high contrast, and tap for text to speech on the buttons. This works on web, mobile, larger form factors like laptops, and can be navigated using touch, mouse, or keyboard for increased accessibility. Most browsers also have great built-in translation, making our site helpful for all.

Try it at www.Medboard.design

Imagine you are at the dentist, and you have a big toothache, and it's hard to speak comfortably. Think about how you'd use the buttons to help you communicate your pain, the medication you've taken, how you're feeling, etc. Think about what you might customize to help you? Would you print out a sheet for yourself?
