Inspiration
We were thinking of ways to do our part to tackle the issue of an ageing population in Singapore and we dived deeper into the various issues faced by these elderly and settled on the difficulty to adhere to medical regiments. We also identified gaps in the current market regarding pill dispensers which include the inability to dispense liquid medication which is prevalent among older patients who have issues swallowing.
What it does
A hardware and software hack that is integrated to remind the elderly to consume their medication on time as well as a web application to provide caregivers with insights into the adherence of the elderly in a less intrusive manner.
How we built it
The front end was built with React, the back end with NodeJS and the electronics were in CPP on the ESP32 microprocessor module with several modules and sensors.
Challenges we ran into
Taking on such a project with multiple domains made it difficult to balance the workload.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to achieve a minimum viable prototype within this short hackathon.
What we learned
We learnt to work within tight time constraints by prioritising project features. Additionally, we learnt to leverage the strengths of each team member.
What's next for Medispense
Expanding its current capabilities to take on pills of varying sizes, and more seamless operations from pill registering to pill refilling. Expanding its use case to be integrated within senior care centres and hospitals or even a cocktail dispenser.
