Inspiration
As seniors graduating college soon, we know we will miss the close-by, close-knit environment we have with our friends and hope to continue the culture of spontaneous run-ins and get togethers once we leave. Once we have graduated, we want to be able to see how close we are to our friends and get notified when they come within a certain distance of us so that we can attempt to meet up with them.
What it does
Meetup Circle's central focus is connection. It tracks a list of your friends and lets you know how far they are from you. If they come within a certain user specified distance of you, you will be able to see it on the app and can attempt to meet up with them.
How we built it
We built Meetup Circle with react-native and flask. React-native was used for the frontend app display and tracking friends locations. Flask was used for the backend for distance calculations and data storage.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was integrating the frontend with the backend. We encountered coherence issues as we saved data in multiple places and sometimes it would update separately.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of getting a project done when we had multiple other commitments during the Hackathon.
What we learned
We learned more about using react-native and frontend/backend communication.
What's next for Meetup Circle
Meetup Circle hopes to continue development with increased security and robustness. We hope to test the app across long distances in the future.
