Inspiration

As an old gamer who misses the golden age of online gaming, I always enjoyed creating servers & worlds for gamers like me. I've created multiple free UO Servers (by using Sphere emulator) years and years ago. Now I'm finding the possibilites and magic of VR so underrated, and I'm very positive in time VR will be a game changer... Once more and more people learn how to use them... If it gives little bit of happiness to the old gamers like me, I'm more than grateful. Multima VR hopefully will be one of the first stable MMORPG-VR game. It's inspired by the famous Ultima series. Since 'Ultima Online' can be considered the best of it's era, Multima VR has the potential to be a good game in right hands.

What it does

The game has a giant map, cool items, lootable monsters, quests and action. All players start the game in the land of Multima with a "dagger" on their hip. There's a Town Crier standing in front of the player. Once you get close he'll give your first quest: Finding the Sewers and killing the monster down there... Once player looks around and finds the water well (with the hint that Town Crier gave to them, looking for a "well" with some Gargoyle Statues around) the players will jump inside the well and find themselves in the Sewers. After some corridors they'll see the creature. The Lizardman. But surprisingly, Lizardman is friendly and will ask for players help.

Quest 1: (Finding the Deeds) Lizardman will ask for players help, since he's afraid to go upper level (to the Multima Town), he'll ask if we can find his 3 lost scrolls. Once player finds 3 scrolls and return to him, player will be awarded (Sword)

Quest 2: (Grandmaster Swordsmanship) Town Crier's dialogue has changed. He's mad because we helped the creature instead of killing it as he wanted. He'll lead the player to the Blacksmith. And Blacksmith is happy that we didn't kill the creature, he is a man of mercy. He'll lead the player to Training Center (Dummy Practice Area)

Players will find their way to the Training Center, and by hitting their brand new quest reward Sword, they'll increase their Swordsmanship skill up to 100.0. Once it reaches to Max level, player will go back to Blacksmith to get his second award (Helmet)

How we built it

By using Worlds Desktop Editor mostly, only few scripts are Codeblocks. I can't deny GenAi's helps since I don't have any other teammates who can help me. Used Blender for some textures, some Photoshop and After Effects for the trailer video part.

Challenges we ran into

When I first started this project, World Capacity was way below so I had to use low mesh assets and smaller map to keep it below the limit, then the new update gave me a fresh breath and I was able to expand the map and details significantly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

To be able to build a VR edition of the greatest online game of an era (late 90s). Even if it's much more simplified version, I'm happy I came this far...

What we learned

The importance of Player Variables, how to use them in an efficient way for different scenarios. (Skill, Loot, Quest) Creating a monster kill&loot system by keeping the server performance (instead of re-creating the Asset, using hide/unhide for the entity and on/off for triggers) And many other things...

What's next for Multima VR

Dungeons: (Coming Soon) Ice Dungeon (Frost Wyrm will have a chance to drop "Halberd of Ice" and any mob inside the dungeon will have a 1% chance to drop "Pauldrons of Cold Night") Elemental Dungeon (Elemental Lord will have a chance to drop "Angel Halo", and any mob inside the dungeon will have 1% chance to drop "Mage Robe")

All these dungeon-drop items will have a seperate functionality in PvP Combat. PvP Combats will have the most glorious rewards in the game.

Also Craftable Items like Mining&Blacksmithy is on my mind...
