Inspiration
Back when we were younger we all used to play lots of strategy games, such as Ikariam or Total War, and we always felt that those that offered a multiplayer experience were the best ones. After many years not playing any of those games, or randomly spending a couple of hours once or twice a year, the experience feels not so good because of the lack of realism or seriousness, even though nostalgia remains as strong as ever.
What it does
We have started the development of a simple online historical strategy game were decisions have an effect over the environment and the possible outcomes of the game.
How we built it
There are two main aspects of the game so far: one is the data base were all information should be stored, developed with mysql, and the other is the game itself, right now as simple as a browser game programmed in javascript.
Challenges we ran into
The algorithms for generating random islands with some specific characteristics has been incredibly hard to be designed. The communication between front-end and back-end seems really complicated, and is still _ under development _.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to handle a long and complicated brain storm when deciding the basic aspects of the game. We all have dreamed about a game like this, and has been a big challenge to find a middle spot between all different opinions.
What we learned
We learnt both from a social perspective and a programming perspective; communicating and negotiating with collaborators, as well as programming in javascript and sql, something that only a couple of us had already done.
What's next for Muralles
The development has started right now, but the path is long, we have decided to try to keep developing it.
