Inspiration
In today's society, it's about as common to share Spotify accounts as it is to share Netflix accounts. That being said, it would be nice to have an easy way to transfer playlists from a shared account into a personal one if you decide to make your own account one day. Not only that, but sometimes it is difficult to create entire playlists from scratch as we tend to have many different playlists for different moods. It'd be nice if you could copy a playlist that's 90% what you like and you can then remove the songs you don't like.
What it does
MusiMover allows you to create playlists in a fast and efficient way all at the click of one button! Simple copy and paste the link of the playlist you like and press submit to see an exact copy of it in your library. If you want a brand new playlist based on an old one, we provided a second entry field for that as well.
How we built it
For our project, we used the React library to create a website and coded in CSS and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
- Conflict resolution: one of our team members left our group early on due to a conflict of interest, but thankfully we recovered and managed to work well in our current team of three
- Learning: none of us were familiar with React, Node.js nor Git before starting this project, so we had to spend a lot of time learning the frameworks as we built the project.
- Time management: as we are all taking the same courses, we all had the same assignments and midterms around the time we had to work on this project, making it difficult to lend time to work on the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Having a final product: we couldn't be more glad that we actually finished the product. It proved to us that we can accomplish anything we put our minds to.
- Familiarity with Git: we are proud that we became more familiar with Git and that we made a step to learn how to use it, considering its widespread use in the software development world.
- Working together despite the stress of school: we were working on this project during a very stressful time in the semester so having accomplished this project while writing midterms, completing assignments and applying for co-op was amazing.
What's next for MusiMover
An initial thought of our project was to be able to transfer and copy playlists from Apple Music to Spotify and vice versa. This could definitely be a future improvement for MusiMover. Also adding more options on the website like to name your playlist, add a cover image, etc. Improving the UI/UX design on the web-app would also be a next step seeing as we ran out of time near the end of the project to create a fluid, easy-to-use interface for the user.
