Inspiration
There are at least 300 million visually impaired people in the world, having this disease means that it's basically impossible to live an independent life. We took it upon ourselves to try to improve the quality of life for those that we can help.
What it does
“New eyes” uses a camera that is strapped somewhere to the wearer's body and reads universal signs such as bathroom, fire extinguishers, and tells the wearer about it
How we built it
We used opencv with some text to speech to detect the difference in parameters such as colors and size. We used tree methods to cross reference the parameters into infering what poster we are seeing
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues when determining the light differences and with our computer power
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We´re proud that our project has a high success rate which will make the life of our wearer easier
What we learned
We learned how to use opencv using many different cameras. We also learned how to use apis. And maybe most importantly we learned the efficiency of neural networks
What's next for New Eyes
An evolution of our tree algorithm, which will turn into a deep learning neural network. We would also like to use an ultrasonic sensor which will help us with the threshold and depth
