Inspiration

NFSee was designed to organize and manage people's growing collection of NFC devices. These range from access cards, to info tags, to small figurines. In addition to serving a range of functionality, these devices vary greatly in size and ability to lose. As such, we designed a web based interface for managing them and preserving them.

What it does

NFSee provides an interface for organizing and storing NFC tags via a web interface. When a tag is placed on the device, its data is stored and its likeness captured. From there, NFSee can emulate that device for future use.

How I built it

This was built using a Raspberry Pi and the NXP Explore NFC board for monitoring and mimicing NFC cards.

Challenges I ran into

The NXP drivers are undocumented and very poorly written. As a result, we had to hot patch it multiple times and effectively guess as to its functionality. Thus, there are a lot of places in which further development would be useful in order to be able to emulate a wider range of devices.

What's next for NFSee

Better NFC emulation will hopefully come, and we would like to design a better enclosure for the device.
