Inspiration

We are avid attendees and help organize and volunteer at events worldwide from hackathons and tech conferences to concerts and raves.

While traveling to events and while coordinating with volunteers for housing, we realized there has to be a better way to handle finding shared housing.

So we came up with Norment, to help tackle these three problems:

Lodging costs are the biggest barrier of entry and often the most expensive part of attending an event

Attendees often seek shared lodging arrangements, but coordinating with other attendees is a nightmare

Events bring in billions of dollars of revenue into the hospitality market annually but never see any returns

What it does

Norment lets you put in the criteria that matters most to you and find rooms with your kind people. Enabling new experiences at events while helping reduce overall costs. Norment's goal is also to help stimulate the event community we love by splitting our booking fees profits with the event organizing teams.

How we built it

Node.js with Nest.js for the backend, Vue.js for the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing hacking time and our full-time obligations with spending time with one of the coolest hacking communities and hackathon events we've ever been a part of.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fully building out the backend, backend documentation, and hand-rolling authentication and authorization in under 10 hours

We're also proud of the amazing mockups and freehand logo from Fabian!

What we learned

Drinking and Hacking are fun. The Miami party scene is lit, and house sharing has amazing marketing potential on top of solving a real problem our organizing friends at Insomniac and SXSW face.

What's next for Noment

Finalizing our MVP and deploying it for Insomniac to run a private beta

Some features we would love to implement from our customer interviews are:

  1. Exclusive Communities; Event's need a separate share link for their volunteers to find housing, but adding options for exclusive ticket groups like Artist Passes and VIP can potentially lead to more ticket sales and pretty exciting experiences and housing reservations!

  2. We would love to provide a way to help Noment members easily split other costs, including renting a car, ridesharing, and grocery delivery.

  3. We would also love to fully open up Noment partnerships through self-service. Allowing events of all shapes and sizes to benefit from the experience. From medium and small-scale events to nomadic travelers and bachelor parties. Norment links will be a great way to help make experiences regarding travel painless.
