Inspiration

Overloaded restaurant menus have been problematic for owners and customers alike. Having too many menu items leaves customers confused about what to pick, making it less likely for them to return in the future. We wanted to help restaurant owners to see which menu items to remove, while also keeping their signature dishes.

What it does

Using eye-tracking, the user is able to gather analytics to which menu items customers spend the most time looking at. A heatmap is generated to visualize this.

How we built it

Frontend: React, JavaScript Backend: Python, Flask

Challenges we ran into

· Feasibly integrating frontend and backend code · Troubleshooting the AdHawk Mindlinks Glasses, which our team was inexperienced with using

Accomplishments that we're proud of

· Most of us have never worked with React prior to Hack the North, so it was a huge learning curve that we overcame.

· Successfully implementing the AdHawk Eye-Tracking Software

What we learned

· The documentation that was provided to implement the eye-tracking was quite vague, so we quickly learned while hacking that Google was a very good friend of ours

What's next for Ocularity

· Implementing different use cases for the eye tracking software, such as for digital marketing, video games, etc.
