Inspiration
When building games in Horizon, I often hit the same wall: every project starts from scratch. I wanted to create a foundation that’s versatile, modular, and remixable — a city kit that saves time for creators while letting them adapt it to any genre.
What it does
Omni-Town Kit is a fully modular snow town template with four interactive systems: • NPC roaming with orientation management. • Impact Zone 1.0 (explosions, destructible props, and bullet impacts). • Footstep tracing for immersion and stealth mechanics. • Dynamic cloud generation with adjustable density, altitude, and direction.
The world doubles as a ready-to-play town and a reusable toolkit for creators.
How we built it
Using the Meta Horizon desktop editor, I designed modular streets, houses, and public spaces that snap together easily. Scripts were written in TypeScript, focusing on clarity so others can study, extend, and remix them. Assets come from Meta’s public library, CC BY 4.0 licensed sources, or were generated in Horizon AI
Challenges we ran into
• Balancing looks with reusability: making it feel like a real town but still modular.
• Keeping performance smooth with interactive systems running under the world.
• Designing scripts simple enough for beginners, but powerful enough for advanced creators.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
• Built a kit that isn’t just a “map” but a foundation for dozens of game genres.
• Created interactive systems (Impact Zone & Cloud Generator) that can be reused in countless contexts.
• Maintained a clean hierarchy so remixers can quickly find and edit components.
What we learned
• Reusability requires thinking differently: assets aren’t “finished props,” they’re building blocks.
• Documentation and clarity are just as important as flashy gameplay.
• Small touches like lighting, window animations, and tram behavior make the world feel alive without locking it into one genre.
What's next for Omni Town Kit
• Add more reusable systems: weather variations, traffic AI, and modular interiors.
• Expand the asset library with prebuilt props for shops, parks, and stations.
