Inspiration

OptiProperty was inspired by the growing need for sustainability in property management. With increasing operational costs for electricity and water, property managers are looking for innovative ways to cut expenses while reducing their environmental impact. The project was developed as part of the UTD 2024 Ripple Effect Hackathon, with the goal of creating a solution that combines AI (SambaNova) technology and data analytics to optimize resource management.

What it does

OptiProperty helps property managers optimize their energy and water usage by providing real-time insights and actionable recommendations. Using AI-powered analytics (SambaNova's Api), the platform monitors consumption patterns and suggests ways to reduce waste, lower costs, and minimize carbon footprints. Property managers can make data-driven decisions that lead to both financial savings and a more sustainable operation.

How we built it

We built OptiProperty using advanced technologies like SambaNova Cloud API for AI-based analysis and real-time data processing. The platform was designed to be intuitive and easy to use, with a focus on delivering actionable insights through a simple user interface. Our development process involved integrating various APIs, creating predictive algorithms for consumption forecasting, and testing the solution to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the accuracy of the predictive algorithms for energy and water consumption. Gathering reliable data and ensuring it was correctly interpreted by the AI models required a lot of fine-tuning. Additionally, making the platform user-friendly and scalable was another hurdle, as we wanted to make sure it could handle a variety of property sizes and types while remaining intuitive for users with varying levels of technical expertise.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of how OptiProperty integrates cutting edge AI technology with practical solutions for property managers. Achieving real time data analysis and delivering actionable insights that can drive significant savings in utility costs was a major accomplishment. Our platform's ability to provide real-time recommendations is something we’re especially proud of, as it directly impacts sustainability efforts and operational efficiency.

What we learned

Through building OptiProperty, we learned a great deal about integrating AI models with real-world applications. We gained experience in optimizing data for predictive analytics, overcoming challenges with real-time processing, and making complex information accessible to users. We also learned the importance of collaboration and communication, as the project required combining skills from various team members to bring the vision to life.

What's next for OptiProperty

Looking ahead, we plan to further refine the platform with additional features such as more detailed resource breakdowns and integration with smart building systems for even more precise control over electricity and water usage. We also aim to scale OptiProperty for broader use in larger commercial properties and expand its capabilities to include other resources like gas and waste management. Our ultimate goal is to make OptiProperty a comprehensive tool for property managers to maximize cost savings and minimize their environmental impact.
