Inspiration

This project is inspired by our upcoming book, “The Metaweb: the next level of the Internet“ to be published on October 9, 2023 by Taylor and Francis. https://www.routledge.com/The-Metaweb-The-Next-Level-of-the-Internet/DAO/p/book/9781032125527#. This project applies the metaweb thinking to bitcoin.

What it does

This project creates a twitter-like feed of inscriptions that people can interact with with their Twitter identity.

How we built it

Next.js and Postgresql User ordinals

Challenges we ran into

Cost of AWS servers was exorbitant as we blew through the $1000 AWS Activate credits
The huge dataset meant we had to have a large AWS and that we were not able to do complicated SQL operations and create full indices on content

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Came up with novel concept
  • Ingested over 16M inscriptions
  • Built cool feed that does not have a bunch of BRC-20and SNS
  • Replicated core Twitter interactions

What we learned

  • Need to use Twitter OAuth 1.0 to get email
  • Text-based ordinal content is super messing and needs significant and sophisticated processing
  • Ingesting ordinals data is very time consuming
  • Vast majority of content is BRC-20 and SNS
  • There is barely any meaningful text content for news, annnouncements, documentation etc... We think is because it is super hard to find this type of content

What's next for Ordweb

  • Build the team
  • Figure out how to afford servers and RDS
  • Build out all of the core Twitter functionality
  • Create an extensible ingestion engine that can identify multiple meta protocols
  • Figure out how to identify collections and represent the entire collection by the first image with ability to load more
  • Enable people to inscribe replies. We think it should be part of the Ordinals protocol but we're prepared to launch our own meta-protocol since it does not appear that Ord is interested. (They're too busy thinking about shitcoins casinos.)
  • Enable people to put replies that they don't want to pay for into a L2 (Leonidas said he could be interested in implementing such a protocol on Ord.io long term.)
  • Support meta-ordinals with L2 storage which would enable people to have decentralized meetings, chats, and other interactions in virtual space relative to a specific inscription, sat, and block with or without token gating
  • Index and support inscription of meta-ordinals (e.g., 0.inscription.mo, 9.block.mo, 100000000.satoshi.mo)
