Inspiration

We are a production team dedicated to the future of creative sound. Traditional music videos are a window and our XR experiences are an open door to endless possibilities. By merging filmic storytelling with game-engine technology, we enable an immersive connection with the music we love. Our work turns songs into shared social spaces and transformative adventures.

What it does

“All the Colors” bridges the gap between streaming audio and spatial computing. Through this project, we hoped to push the industry’s stagnation by transforming this music video from a two-dimensional broadcast into a 3D experience. By capturing every voxel of a performance, we provide artist with the technical infrastructures to build a living universe. The creative ethos of our work is reinforced by the artists we collaborate with. Such as R&B singer-songwriter Kes Kross. In his artistic notes regarding his song All the Colors, Kes emphasizes the need for genuine emotional expression in an increasingly curated digital world.

“I’m finding more people who are stuck behind their emotions. People who are prisoners to a constructed persona, all crafted to hold up some kind of idea of digital perfection as a means of escapism. I made All the Colors to say it’s ok to recognize your feelings. Your humanity and what you feel is worthy of being expressed! The colors in the sky are not always bright, but It’s important to remember the storms don’t last forever.” -Kes Kross

This perspective aligns with our core mission to utilize cutting-edge technology. Not as a means of escapism, but as a tool to facilitate the most authentic and immediate human experiences in a new medium.

How we built it

We created All the Colors production environment to solve a single problem; how do you keep the soul of cinema while building a world without walls? Our pipeline is where high-end cinematography meets the frontier of spatial computing. To build the future of music, we fused the surgical precision of the Canon R5C 180 VR camera and the raw cinematic depth of the Blackmagic URSA Immersive camera imagery with the infinite scale of the Unreal Engine 5. With editing videos and audio in Davinci Resolve, this hybrid pipeline allows us to shatter the digital detachment. And algorithm-driven stagnation that has reduced art to background noise.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the new tech of the Blackmagic URSA Immersive camera into our workflow presented significant technical hurdles. Primarily due to the steep learning curve of its high-bitrate RAW requirements during live production. These hardware challenges were further complicated by a major software bottleneck in the Unreal Engine 5, where the cinematic on-camera talent frequently experienced synchronization failures or position resets upon loading. Furthermore, the misaligned assets disrupted the seamless virtual production environment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our Production team is proud to have successfully execute a groundbreaking project that truly paves the way for the future of music through innovative virtual production techniques. The initiative involved an exciting collaboration with a Grammy award-winning artist and songwriter, Kes Kross. Bringing their creative vision to life within a seamlessly integrated digital environment. Our project, All the Colors, stands as a testament to our commitment to evolving the filmmaking pipeline and empowering artists to tell their stories without traditional limitations.

What we learned

Our project, All the Colors, is a pioneering effort in virtual production. We encountered several key learning curves associated with new hardware and persistent integration. Specifically, with cinematic camera synchronization and managing file render times. We overcame these conflicts by implementing early-stage storyboarding and music sync planning to optimize the workflow.

What's next for PERIL

Building on our successful foundation, the next phase of our production group focuses on evolving the passive VR experience into an interactive narrative that offers meaningful user choice. Which will allow the audience to actively shape their journey through the music video. This vision also involves reaching out to and collaborating with a diverse range of artists to bring new perspectives and genres into the virtual production sphere. Fundamentally, we plan to push the boundaries of what a VR music video can be by incorporating cutting-edge creative elements that will elevate the evolution of this immersive medium.
