Inspiration
With the increasing frequency of cyber attacks, it's more important than ever to be vigilant when it comes to online security.
What it does
Our app is built to recognize phishing scams that have been sent to the user. It's simple to use - the user can ask the server whether a message or link is a potential phishing scam and it will provide a response indicating if the user should proceed with caution or delete the message altogether.
How we built it
We used an Express server to host the backend server. Then we connected our React app to the server, allowing users to interact with the API.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was finding an idea for the project and creating the plan for it. Together we were able to work together to find a challenge that we were all inspired by and developed a plan of action. This plan was crucial for accelerating the development process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Everything. Kidding! But seriously we're proud of the teamwork and all of the work that we did.
What we learned
We learned a lot from one another! Each of us had something to teach each other - whether it was project design or Express servers.
What's next for Phishing Pole
In the future, we plan to expand our app to connect to a user's email account. We do recognize that this already exists in Gmail but we hope to expand by building an extension for Gmail which provides users with prevention tips and next steps. We also plan on implementing a machine learning model to better identify phishing attempts.
