Inspiration
Yik Yak is a great place
What it does
If you've lost an item or found an item, you can drop a pin on the location of the item on a Google Map. After dropping a pin, you fill out a form depending on whether you lost an item or you found an item. That information is then put into a database and all the information provided is put onto our listings page, which lists all of the form submissions. If you found an item, you can report it to that particular listing and after answering three questions that the lister provided, which are setup so that we can verify that the item is yours, you will be able to meet with that person to retrieve the item.
How we built it
The front end was all done in HTML, CSS, and Javascript for their webdev capabilities. The data was stored in mySQL. PHP was used for general backend purposes. The Google Maps API was used to produce the map. Adobe Photoshop was used to create the logo.
Challenges we ran into
Time was a major constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our final product has a user interface that looks it could be a real website and back end code worked out pretty well for us. All in all, we're just proud that we could get the core of the project done.
What we learned
Gotta code fast!
What's next for Pinguin
We would love to be able to turn it into an actual website. Currently, we aren't sure what's in store for Pinguin, but we are optimistic about the future!
