Inspiration

We are inspired by the reality that humans are highly visual creatures. Pinterest is already capitalizing on this visual affinity by allowing people to create visual boards.

We believe that AI can help users take their creativity a step further and reimagine their actual living spaces using their boards as inspiration.

What it does

Pinterior allows you to visualize how different aesthetics and designs would look in your actual living space.

Pinterest has 500 million users, who make Pinterest boards. People use these boards as sources for inspiration and discovery. Pinterior seeks to bridge the gap between these digital boards and the actual physical spaces we inhabit.

How we built it

We used Figma and React to create the front end structure and developed the backend using Python, OpenAI API to detect difference between image versions and explain them, and stable diffusion models to perform search and replace function on the images according to the proposed styles.

Challenges we ran into

The main tradeoff the Pinterior team ran into was picking speed over functionality. We could ask the model to do more than it currently does in terms of transforming the photo of the room, but that would slow down the user experience, creating a risk of user dropoff.

In addition, creating a prompt for the model that would consistently generate our desired output required several rounds of testing and rewriting prompts.

Finally, a challenge was that we wanted to integrate directly with Pinterest, but their developer team has not yet accepted our integration request.

What's next for Pinterior

Product and Engineering: Build support for affiliate marketing. When Pinterior remakes a space with a new couch, we envision Pinterior eventually giving the user the ability to follow a link to buy the couch. This would require significant engineering resources to build, but would be our strongest path to monetization. Integration with Pinterest. This will enable us to more seamlessly import users Pinterest boards, reducing user frictions. User testing. We have many open questions on how we can deliver the most value to the customer. We want to allow users to interact with our prototype, so we can further iterate
