Inspiration
Pokémon's popularity and the fun of card games inspired us to create Pokeflurry, a game where players test their knowledge of Pokémon by selecting the correct image from four playing cards. By blending the excitement of Pokémon with the dynamics of a card game, we aimed to offer a unique, fun, and interactive experience.
What it does
Pokeflurry challenges players to select the correct Pokémon card from a set of four. The game plays out like a card game, where only one card is the right answer, and the player must choose wisely to continue. The experience mirrors a fast-paced tabletop game, offering a simple yet engaging challenge.
How we built it
We used Reddit's Devvit APIs to integrate the game seamlessly, with Figma for UI/UX design. The card-based gameplay provides a familiar feel for players who enjoy tabletop games, while the digital format makes it accessible and fast-paced.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was translating the physicality of a card game into a digital format. We had to make sure the interaction with the cards felt intuitive and engaging while maintaining the fast-paced gameplay.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of how we’ve combined card game mechanics with the Pokémon universe to create a unique experience. The gameplay feels like a digital tabletop game, offering both challenge and fun for players.
What we learned
We learned how to make a digital card game that is both accessible and exciting. Balancing the pacing and interaction was key to creating a game that’s quick, fun, and engaging.
What's next for Pokeflurry
Next, we plan to add more Pokémon to the game and explore multiplayer options, making the experience even more interactive, like a real-life card game session with friends.
