Inspiration
We wanted to create a product that addressed the concern of young adults not coming out to vote during the elections, due to lack of knowledge and also disinterest.
What it does
A mobile learning app that educates users about the voting process and government, allowing them to collect points along the way to exchange for prizes.
How we built it
Politicool was built with the help of Figma and React Native! Brainstorm and design were all conducted through Figma, and the magic happened with React Native. I created a React Native application using Expo. Google Firebase was used to facilitate all the data. I also created an Express server to serve us the daily challenge questions!
We used OpenAI GPT4 to generate questions.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was truthfully, time. Since it was Father's Day weekend, we had to be strategic with the time we had available. We are super proud of our end result!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have created this application, from ideation to design and development, through only the 36-hour Hackathon course! We both were able to apply the skills we gained from our experiences to make something we were proud of.
What we learned
From the development side, I learned that there are a ton of tools that make it easier than ever to create applications. React Native and Expo make it super easy for someone to deploy a semi-polished iOS/Android app over the weekend.
We also learned that there is so much information about the election and US politics that we don't know ourselves. We want to be more educated for this upcoming election!
What's next for Politicool
- Improve the UI!
- Test our product on target users – we want feedback!
- Expand on the prize and leveling up features
- Develop a more extensive lessons database to ensure all information is included
- Add a notification experience for users to be alerted reminders throughout the voting process!
