Inspiration

CAYAV was inspired by our own aspirations for homeownership. As young adults in our mid-20s, we understand that purchasing your first home can be a daunting and intimidating process. As a result, we aimed to develop a tool that would assist us (and other first-time homebuyers) in identifying the right home to buy based on their finances, family needs, and amenity preferences.

What it does

CAYAV offer a tailored solution that helps users discover areas that best match their priorities, including education quality, population size, average home prices, household size, housing market activity, employment rates, housing status (renting or ownership), and traffic conditions. By providing these insights, we ensure a smoother and more informed journey into home ownership.

How we built it

We utilized a range of different tools and softwares to create CAYAV. Please ask us to elaborate when visiting our booth!

Challenges we ran into

Our team faced several challenges throughout the process. First and foremost, acquiring relevant and comprehensive datasets presented a formidable obstacle, with data collection and preprocessing consuming a significant amount of time.

Once we obtained the data, the task of cleaning and wrangling it proved to be both tedious and time-consuming. We then had to determine the necessary analyses to extract meaningful insights from the data.

Effective communication was crucial in this group project, and we dedicated time to ensuring that all members were aligned on a unified vision for implementing our ideas and features. Overall, this hackathon provided an invaluable experience for our team, allowing us to hone our communication and task delegation skills while successfully creating and implementing a multi-faceted tool under a strict deadline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is the first hackathon for three of our four members, and we are very proud of what we have accomplished. We leveraged our diverse skill sets to develop a comprehensive tool that addresses the needs of an underserved customer base. Together, we demonstrated effective communication, collaboration, and time management, reflecting the capabilities of a highly efficient and productive team.

What we learned

Each team member has gained valuable technical, interpersonal, and professional skills that will benefit us in our future careers.

What's next for CAYAV

To enhance our product and streamline the home search process for customers, we plan to explore the following datasets and features:

  • Neighborhood Safety Scores: Integrate crime rate data to provide safety ratings for different areas, helping users make informed decisions about potential neighborhoods.
  • School District Performance: Incorporate education data to show school ratings and performance metrics for families with children.
  • Commute Time Analysis: Utilize transportation data to calculate average commute times to popular work areas from potential homes.
  • Future Development Projects: Include information on planned infrastructure improvements or commercial developments that could impact property values.

As we expand our resources and capabilities, our vision remains the same: to help first-time homebuyers find a home that best suits their needs.
