Inspiration
The inspiration comes from other UGC platforms, but especially Garry's Mod.
What it does
Prop Hunt is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game where players can disguise themselves as objects in the environment. Hiders try to blend in while seekers attempt to find them before time runs out. The game encourages creativity, observation, and quick thinking.
How we built it
We built the game entirely in Horizon Worlds using its scripting tools and UGC assets. Interactive objects, spawn points, and a responsive UI provide real-time feedback, while scripts manage player detection, scoring, and object interactions to ensure smooth gameplay.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was creating an accurate and fair object detection system for hiders and seekers. Additionally, balancing interactions and ensuring smooth multiplayer performance in a dynamic UGC environment required careful testing and iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a fully functional Prop Hunt system within Horizon Worlds. The mechanics work seamlessly, and the game provides a solid foundation for multiplayer hide-and-seek gameplay.
What we learned
We learned how to create a system that allows players to change into different objects and how to convert a player into a prop by adjusting their scale. This required understanding both the scripting mechanics and player interactions, ensuring the transformation is smooth, intuitive, and fun for gameplay. We also gained experience in optimizing object swapping and managing the multiplayer aspects of these interactions.
What's next for Prop Hunt
We plan to add a shop where players can unlock and customize new objects to hide as, enhancing personalization and adding more engagement opportunities in the future.
