Inspiration

With the help of flexible sensor made of PET and nylon films, which is not just bio-friendly, but also paves the way of flexible and intelligent sport sensing technologies.

What it does

Using wood & foam, we created a training dummy. We added a trioboelectric sensor to the chest of the dummy so the user could effectively interact with the dummy so when the user throws a punch the dummy will detect it & hit back with the foam "arm" as shown in one of the clips. The input from the punch corresponds with the unity animation as shown in the video so that the "training partner" in the unity animation has a chance to punch, jab, or block then punch with the foam arm.

How we built it

Flexible triboelectric sensors (mad of PET and Nylon film.) oscilloscope to test the sensors (Brought in) AD260 amplifier - for the sensors Arduino MEGA, jumper wires Scrapwood bars (2x4) and planks, solder, glue & tape Foam

Challenges we ran into

How to process the triboelectric signal output to be correlated to the specific punches from boxing, as well as how to integrate those into the VR environment to build an intelligent sport training scenario.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Us building the sensor, us processingg the sensor output signals with proper amplifiers, and we also developed algorithms that can turn the force induced triboelectric output signals with the corresponding sport movements, like punching from boxing. We're also very proud of designing and building the prototype of the dummy in the limited time we were given and creating the ecofriendly triboelectric sensors by ourselves.

What we learned

Always focus on the hardware equipment and test it beforehand. We had to review scientific literature to understand the issue with our sensors. The importance of preparing by learning relevant skills beforehand.

What's next for Puntech

Create updated iteration with reduced latency using more processors, more sophisticated dummy with wider range of movement, implementation of language models for positive reinforcement (improves motivation), refined virtual world design (More animations, graphics, personalization, etc.)
