Inspiration

We are big fans of trivia apps such as HQ trivia. They are really fun and are an interesting business model. However, there is currently no way for smaller brands or community organizations to host quizes that pay out real money. Wouldn't it be great it there was a way for educational organizations to make quizes that incentive learning about gap subjects? How about tech companies incentivizing developers to learn how to use their APIs and SDKs. And small brands can self promote in a fun way? Does all that sound good?

What it does

QUIZBOX is a quiz for everyone, everywhere

With QUIZBOX, anyone can make a quiz that pays out cryptocurrency, cryptoassets, or cryptocollectibles. The quiz administrator (quizmaster) creates a quiz and either invites participants via a code, or makes it public. The quiz is scheduled for a specific day and time. Users play by voice control on the Snips platform. When it's time to play, the players go online, and answer questions one by one on a subject of the quizmaster's choosing.

QUIZBOX is built on Snips, which means that it doesn't need to be connected to the internet to work. You can QUIZBOX in the car!

How we built it

We built an Ethereum smart contract that validates quiz answers. The front end is the Snips, which interacts with the contract via web3.

Challenges we ran into

Transaction speed is important here, as the quiz experience is supposed to be rapid fire. We experimented with Loom with hopes of speeding things up, but were unable to complete the integration in time. DAO.CASINO is not applicable for this application, because it can only be used to make single player games, and QUIZBOX is multiplayer.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming up with an innovative, useful application. Incentivized "microquizes" could be a very useful to community developers and education organizations.

What we learned

We learned about Loom and Snips. We really like Snips. Snips is great because it doesn't need an internet connection -- people can play with it in the car, etc.

What's next for QUIZBOX

The next immediate thing is to publish this on the snips app store. Longer term we have to continue software development and perhaps, one day, even whitelabel the Snips as a proprietary QUIZBOX product.
