Inspiration
We saw an Interesting tool, Twilio's restful API that we wanted to work with and see what we can get to.
What it does
The program takes speech from a phone call and is able to convert it to a text file which can be sent to the same phone number through a print command. It also understands punctuation through specific voice commands.
How we built it
We used the Twillio restful API, Python, Git, Flask and a whole lot of blood, sweat and red bull.
Challenges we ran into
lack of experience coding with APIs, as well as common recurring problems with servers and data types. Managing different URL destinations for the calls as well as Server side API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Great team morale and cohesion throughout the 24 hours, as well as that R-BINE works. As a first hackathon for all us, we are glad to have a product at the end of it.
What we learned
How to manage APIs, and learning to code in Python in completely new environments. Using Flask was also a new experience for all of us. Especially this experience was great for Jay as he had never coded in Python before.
What's next for R-BINE
We will head back to London and get some sleep. For the next hackathons we will use the lessons learnt from this to perhaps create R-BINE 2.0 or perhaps something completely new.
