Inspiration

With the rise of misinformation and the increasing difficulty in verifying sources, we wanted to create a tool that empowers readers to fact-check claims efficiently. ReadCheck AI was inspired by the need for an easy, seamless way to highlight statements and instantly check their credibility against verified sources.

What it does

ReadCheck AI scans an article for key claims and highlights them. When a user clicks on a highlighted sentence, a popup appears displaying sources that support or contradict the claim. Each source is clickable, allowing users to quickly access relevant articles to verify the information.

How we built it

We developed ReadCheck AI as a web-based tool using: Frontend: HTML, CSS, Javascript. Backend: Express with Node.js to process articles, extract claims, and fetch sources. Third-Party Services: Cohere and SerpAPI to analyze articles, extract inaccurate claims and find supporting sources

Challenges we ran into

Properly identifying false claims and extracting relevant supporting sources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Experimenting with chrome extension programming, which was new for everyone

What we learned

Fact checking is hard and Cohere documentation could use some love

What's next for ReadCheck AI

Allowing tool to extract articles across various websites and improving accuracy of false claim diagnostic and supporting articles
