Inspiration

In the very heart of the nigerian market, plastic are the go-to for market merchants to easily store grains and oils consumables. Most often, a vile act is done where they get these plastic bottles off the streets, damage and germ plagued! and they think a simple rinse of the bottles with water will clense and suffice a good riddance to all bacterias bathed in the bottles, which could potentially leave customers open to infections, this dreadful tale has come to the knowledge of purchasing customers and they are now demanding for better and safer services or else they would not be purchasing goods from these merchants resulting in low sales.

In the suburban areas of Lagos state, the most populated state in the country, over 80000 Tonnes of bottles are wasted each month creating health and environmental problems.

this largely down to lack of willingness on the part of residents to adopt recommended waste disposal means that have been prescribed by the relevant authorities. Rather! the hundreds of bottles being used in households are discarded in the bin immediately after use, making them unusable

What it does

That is the gap our startup sets out to bridge, Our solution Recapped offers a subscription based service, where these merchants and suburban residents(donors) pay a fee of 1000 Naira (2$) per month for logistic and operational purposes, where we come pick up used bottles that are still in good conditions from the donors on a weekly/monthly basis, then deliver it to merchants in the markets that are on our subscription plan after using industrial techniques to sanitize the bottles..

In turn, the merchants get a lot of clean bottles that would be certified by us. Hence, increasing sales as customers have the confidence and trust that the bottles have pass through our inspection

While for the donors, they get to receive sustainability points, as we would be working with international bodies and universities. These points would be measured by how many bottles they have given out, and can be used to show how they have fulfilled their green house duties, and apply for UNICEF leadership/internship roles and also to universities that encourage public services

Challenges we ran into

The integration of square's subscription API was difficult as we were not used to the technology before hand, also documentation was a tad bit difficult to understand. But atlas, we managed to achieve a successful integration

Accomplishments that we're proud of

At whisper care we are a small humble group of 5 all working remotely from each other during the course of this project.

I think time management and team collaboration were fundamental in what we learnt, as we were all in school doing part-time jobs while also handing this project.

Also helped us to see what disabled people struggle with in their everyday life through out the entire development process and why it's important to build ecosystems with inclusive tech and accessibility being a top priority.

We got introduced to new technologies which improved our tech background and knowledge.

What's next for Recapped

Expanding to bigger regions and more diverse uses for plastic. Watch out!!!
