Receipt-eater

Inspiration

Our inspiration for this app is, a lot of people struggle with keeping track of receipts and managing their finances. Better finance will lead to better financial decisions.

What it does

This app will take in an image of a receipt and record necessary information such as the company the user bought something from, the item(s) they purchased, and the break down of the cost. It will then organize this spending based on type of purchase and the date it was purchased. We also hope to add a feature for users to ask questions about credit scores, loans, and tax information.

How we built it

We have used React.js(Frontend) and Python(Backend) to build the web app.

Challenges we ran into

-Extracting data from the photo of the receipt. -First time using flask. -Had issues connecting backend to front end. -Connecting python and react was not easy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to extract the data from the pictures of the the receipts. We were able to create an AI chatbot that interacts with users and gives then financial quotes or advices.

What we learned

We have learned how to connect Python back-end with React front end and how to use NLP to extract data from the receipt.

What's next for Receipt Eater

We would be happy to implement additional functionalities like calculating tax breaks for buying specific things, warn the user when he/she spends much more than average etc.
