Hello everyone!

We're excited to present our product for the Sustainable Solutions track – introducing Relastic! Relastic is an online platform designed for students to learn about and actively engage in sustainable practices on campus. In a world where convenience often leads to replacing rather than reusing, our goal is to inspire students to be environmentally conscious. We aim to reduce the usage of plastic products, promote eco-friendly alternatives, and incentivize sustainable behavior. Now, let's take a quick look at our web application.

Our website features easy scrolling to access key components: a welcome and mission statement, information about our team, and the sign-up/login option. Upon signing up, users customize the app to their campus by entering their university name. Completing tasks earns points for on-campus use.

Examples include:

  • Using reusable water bottles or grocery bags on campus (recorded through card swipes) earns the user 20 points, equivalent to $2 at a school cafe.
  • Sorting waste products for 2 hours with the sustainability club earns the user 40 points, redeemable at an on-campus convenience store.

While we've implemented main features for account creation, additional functionalities and aesthetics are on the way!

We crafted our web app using a mix of tools: Figma for the UI prototype, React Library in JavaScript for the front end, and Firebase for the back end. Styling was handled with Tailwind in CSS. Collaborating on simultaneous progress was challenging but manageable. We learned that it is more efficient for some people to focus on certain aspects, leveraging their strengths.

We express gratitude to sponsors, organizers, and mentors for an enjoyable first hackathon. Despite challenges like varying skills, communication, and fatigue, we learned the importance of discussing these aspects, taking the time to plan, and working on each step of the design process. We are proud of our accomplishments and hope you found our product and presentation intriguing!

Thank you and goodbye!
