Inspiration

I knew I wanted to make an android app, this seemed as good a project as any (plus it's a bit whacky :) )

What it does

Technically it doesn't work, but if it did, then it would fling stuff around. The idea was that it's a trebuchet with a horizontal range of 180 degrees

How I built it

With two servos, blu-tack, HUK stickers, an RS ruler, and the Durhack mug (as well as a pi and breadboard etc)

Challenges I ran into

Android 4.4 only plays well with API 19 or earlier, but android studio doesn't have an emulator for 4.4 or API 19, and the android studio narwhal gradle plugin hates anything less than API 23 (for context, the current API version as of 2025-11-02 is API 36)

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I slept! And I both learned about legacy android development, and improvised the trebuchet. I'm very proud of the improvised catapult

What I learned

Developing for legacy android devices is a pain

What's next for Remote catapult

Actually figure out how to compile code for android 4.4
