Inspiration The AI Resume Roaster was born out of frustration with the typical, overly-sanitized feedback people receive on their resumes. Rather than receiving bland, unhelpful advice, we decided to create a solution that would provide brutally honest, humorous feedback. It's the tough love you never knew you needed, designed to make you laugh at your own mistakes and encourage personal growth, all while poking fun at the often-dry world of resume writing.
What it does The AI Resume Roaster takes your resume (in PDF format) and delivers a detailed, comedic critique. It highlights everything from your uninspired projects to your questionable work experiences, roasting them with a dose of sarcasm and humor. The tool provides a brutally honest analysis to help you see where your resume could use improvement, while also ensuring that both your morale and resume get thoroughly "cooked." It’s all in good fun, of course.
How we built it The AI Resume Roaster was built using state-of-the-art machine learning and natural language processing algorithms, combined with humor-focused models to create a tone that balances critique with comedy. We used a PDF parsing library to extract text from resumes and then processed this information to identify key sections, such as experience, skills, and projects. From there, the AI employed custom humor templates to add sarcastic remarks, exaggerated critiques, and witty commentary throughout the document. All of this is delivered in a seamless, user-friendly interface.
Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that the AI’s humor came across as intended—funny, but not hurtful. Striking the right balance between a good roast and unnecessary negativity was tricky, as we wanted the critique to be lighthearted and constructive while still being brutally honest. Additionally, parsing and interpreting the variety of resume formats and structures posed a technical challenge, as resumes can vary greatly in content and layout.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We’re proud of how the AI manages to blend humor with insight, giving users feedback they can both laugh at and learn from. The fact that the system can take any resume, regardless of structure, and still deliver consistent, funny, and informative critiques is a significant achievement. Most importantly, we’re happy that the AI can roast resumes without crossing the line into being cruel, maintaining a fun and entertaining tone.
What we learned We learned that people have a lot of creative (and sometimes hilarious) ways of structuring their resumes and that the "good enough" mentality is widespread. We also learned that humor is a powerful tool in keeping users engaged and motivated, even when they’re receiving critical feedback. Additionally, creating a program that doesn't just analyze content but also understands tone and context was more difficult than we anticipated.
What's next for Resume Roaster The next steps for the AI Resume Roaster involve expanding the scope of its feedback. we plan to add a feature allow users have their email read and the roaster will find rejections and roast users on them
