Inspiration
We would like to create something that is highly reusable and fun to enrich the user experience when they look up for routes in the new beta reittiopas website.
- It is difficult to discover interesting events, places, locations around in Helsinki
- Tourists want to save cost by using transportation while discovering these locations.
Solution:
A new personalised recommendation feature to suggest new routes to interesting based on user’s interests in the page (Destinations, favourite locations, etc.)
What it does
A route recommendation on top of beta.hsl.fi
How we built it
By adding only one Frosmo script tag to the header, we can help to improve the user experience on the site without touching the complex system of HSL in the shortest time possible.
User behaviours are segmented selectively by the behaviour of users on the page (Destination, search terms, locations, time, favourite locations, and many more).
Route recommendation is generated automatically based on the behaviours of the users. The more they use HSL, the more relevant routes the feature offers.
Benefits
- Enrich user experience of using HSL, hence increase the retention of users.
- Lightning fast script that does not require HSL to change any functionality of the current system.
Challenges we ran into
- Very short time to implement such a feature. All idea, design, coding are done during this hackathon.

- We got our app up and running
- Intuitive and beautiful feature that really compliments the HSL main app
- It can help to increase the value of the app

- Team working skills, idea formations, skill distribution
- How to improve the product without touching the core functionality/code of the main app.
What's next for Rorec
-Improving the route recommendations to suit the best for most of users depending on their needs and interests
