Inspiration

Sectify, also known as electronic voting or internet voting, refers to the use of electronic systems and technologies to facilitate the casting and counting of votes in elections. It is an alternative to traditional paper-based voting methods and aims to streamline the voting process, enhance accessibility, and improve efficiency in elections.

Project Overview:

In Nigeria, the electoral process has been marred by challenges such as voter fraud, low voter turnout (due to fear of chaos and killings by political thugs), and inefficient manual vote counting. To address these issues, a project was initiated to develop an e-voting site with Web3 integration. The goal was to leverage blockchain technology and decentralized applications (dApps) to create a secure, transparent, and tamper-proof voting system.

Problem Statement: Nigeria has faced significant challenges in its electoral system, including:

a. Voter Fraud: Manual voting systems are susceptible to manipulation, ballot stuffing, and voter impersonation, leading to compromised election results. b. Low Voter Turnout: Traditional voting methods often require voters to travel long distances, wait in long queues, and fear chaos and killings by political thugs, discouraging participation and leading to lower voter turnout. c. Inefficient Vote Counting: Manual counting of paper ballots is time-consuming and prone to human errors, resulting in the delayed announcement of election results and doubts about their accuracy.

Observation regarding Sectify

Democratic Empowerment: Sectify can empower citizens by providing them with a convenient and accessible platform to exercise their democratic rights. It eliminates geographical constraints, long queues, and time limitations, allowing more people to participate in the electoral process.

Increased Voter Turnout: Sectify has the potential to increase voter turnout by making voting more convenient and accessible. With the ability to vote remotely from any location, individuals who may have difficulty reaching polling stations or face time constraints can still participate in elections.

Fast and Accurate Results: Sectify voting systems can provide near-instantaneous vote counting and result reporting. This eliminates the need for manual counting, reducing the chances of errors and enabling prompt declaration of results. It enhances the efficiency of the electoral process and reduces uncertainty.

Cost Efficiency: The usage of Sectify gives the lead to significant cost savings compared to traditional paper-based voting methods. Eliminating the need for printing and distributing physical ballots, setting up polling stations, and manual counting can reduce expenses associated with elections, making the process more cost-effective.

Enhanced Security Measures: With robust encryption, secure networks, and tamper-proof mechanisms, Sectify systems can be designed to ensure the security and integrity of votes. Functions of Sectify Casting Votes: Sectify allows voters to cast their votes electronically using various methods, such as touchscreen interfaces It provides a user-friendly and intuitive interface for voters to select their preferred candidates or choices.

Vote Counting: Sectify systems automate the process of vote counting, eliminating the need for manual tabulation. Votes are counted digitally and can be tallied in real-time, leading to faster and more efficient results.

Remote Voting: Sectify allows voters to cast their ballots remotely, without physically visiting a polling station. Remote voting options facilitate participation for individuals who are unable to be present at the polling location on election day due to travel, illness, or other constraints.

Efficient Election Administration: SECTIFY streamlines election administration by automating various tasks, such as voter registration, ballot distribution, and vote counting. This reduces the administrative burden on election officials, minimizes errors, and expedites the overall electoral process.

Enhanced Security Measures: Sectify systems can implement advanced security measures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of votes. Strong encryption protocols, secure networks, and audit trails help prevent unauthorized access, tampering, or manipulation of vote data.

Target Audience: The e-voting site with Web3 integration targets various stakeholders involved in the electoral process in Nigeria: a. Voters: The system aims to provide a convenient and secure voting experience to all eligible voters, including those residing in remote areas. b. Electoral Authorities: The e-voting system offers an efficient and transparent solution to electoral authorities, streamlining the voting process and reducing the administrative burden associated with manual vote counting. c. Political Parties and Candidates: The transparent and auditable nature of the e-voting system ensures fair and accurate representation of the voters' choices, enhancing the credibility of election results. d. Observers and Civil Society Organizations: The system provides an opportunity for independent observers and civil society organizations to monitor the voting process and ensure its integrity.

How we built it

Sectify was built based on the Electioneering process of both physical and IT logistics. There was an immediate need for a more seamless and transparent voting process by its citizens.

From the conception of the product to its development, it is focused on adding a seamless transaction process between a new voting order to something that warrants coordination and credibility. The usage of wallet Identification was for more involvement and advancement of the product

Challenges we ran into

The ideation/Conception of what's known to the unknown was a more weighty task, the need to have a more secure platform was more of a challenge

Implementation of the UIs in the shortest period and factoring them into the application was quite a difficult task for the front-end implementation.

The Voting Contract using the Fantom blockchain involves more logic than implementation, this one gave us more stretch than expected.

The selection of a more suitable design was more of a load as we changed the interface concurrently until we arrived at the present one.

These made us realize quite several reasons for the Efficiency of team-work

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We can proudly say we have implemented all the MVPs stated on the PRD and all our works are tested and working.

We have successfully integrated the Smart contract and consumed all the APIs Which makes the product functional.

What we learned

What we learnt from this hackathon is how we could deploy smart contracts on Fantom's main net. The process initially appeared ambiguous but we successfully deployed that eventually. We learnt how to use this e-voting system with Fantom's blockchain. Another major thing learnt was being able to build an application in the shortest time possible after the ideation process.

What's next for Sectify

The product is a continuous work as we Intend to input other necessary MVPs such as:

  1. Audio recording- this would aid in knowing and detecting the voices of both the user and others around Incase of electoral manipulation.

It would also be a factor to stop multiple votes by an individual restricting them.

  1. Thumb detector: With the usage of an AI tool built on Sectify, we would allow voters to thumbprint before casting their vote and ensure it's captured properly.

  2. Face recording- camera capture helps in making a clear view of the voters and rejects an unprecedented attempt to misuse the product
