Our app takes in a chunk of English text, and spits out a simpler chunk of English text, replacing complicated words with simpler ones. This technology can potentially allow kids to read the NYTimes or ESL learners to read complex research papers.
In order to do this, we created an NLP algorithm using a customized top 13,000 words of the English language, Google word vectorizations to gauge similarities, pattern.en's conjugator to get base forms of words and its part-of-speech tagger to ensure the correct tense of replacement words. Our Chrome extension allows us to modify pages in real time.
