Inspiration
After studying abroad from China in the US, I am becoming more and more connected with my home country accross the distance of Pacific Ocean. Somehow I started to read Chinese history, which I used to find it boring. There are a lot of great people, primary ministers rising from a farmer and realize his dream building up the country getting power only less to the emperor, great poets that write all his life, the people's life, the dynasty's life, all in his masterpieces... However, given there are totally different stories, there is one thing in common --- tea. Those men in powers attending affairs, poets writing poems, they all drink tea. Tea not only becomes a daily drink of them, but also serves as a media of people daily interactions, medias of inspirations of many great arts, calligraphy, of course, poems. Nevertheless, there are so many different kinds of tea which is difficult to choose, while most of them are not taste as intriguing as those beverages that has gas and sugar. Still, nowadays more and more people are interested in Chinese culture, and would like to have a taste of the highly-combined tea, thus I am thinking about combining my interest of history and passion for communication and story-telling, helping them find the tea that most suitable for them, at the same time connecting with them more about histories, stories and the culture.
What it does
It collects user's information and preference, matched them with features of 6 main kinds of tea in Chinese tea culture, and racommand them with most suitable tea, while letting them know how they are connected with the match.
How we built it
I working solo, mainly used React.js+MUI frontend, Flask for backend, SQL for database of tea and user profile.
Challenges we ran into
To make the frontend page more vivid, I need to consider different ways of displaying, which conerns different functions in Javascript and themes in MUI. For example, there are differnt pictures displaying one after another, and different page switching (main pages and small pages inside the main pages).
Backgroud knowledge search takes a great amount of time, as well as how the process of how this platform works. I found out this topic will be hard, even start from the very beginning of elaboration. But it interests me a lot, and it'll also be a good challenge for me.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figure out how every component works and build a very beautiful frontend displaying, which is significantly better than previous projects I worked in hackathon.
What we learned
Advanced knowledge of frontend building, implementation of Javascript and MUI with more features I haven't used before, and controlling the layout to what I expect much easier.
What's next for SippingEcho
The features and functions need enhancing, such as the team matching process, there indeed needs more comprehensive considerations of the questions;
With the matching process, users have a deep connection and understanding with tea, especially the tea they have been matched, then it's time to collaborate or run a tea shop based on the platform to actually selling the teas to the users.
