Inspiration
The problem with home gyms is the lack of motivation. With sofas nearby the temptation is always to stop exercising. We wanted to create a way to motivate people who work out alone at home to push themselves past their limits.
What it does
Skwat is an immersive personal trainer experience. Work out alone or with a friend skwatting or doing push ups in time to the music. Our proprietary AI technology will give tailored motivational feedback to ensure you reach your best self.
How we built it
The sensors are connected to arduino which monitors when exercises are performed. This data is sent via serial to a computer where the control and a GUI interface is run. We used pygame to build the experience into something that could be seamlessly integrated into existing home gym setups.
Challenges we ran into
Doing everything really fast because we got sidetracked with a different project lol.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first hack looking at beat detection and creating a rhythm game scoring experience. Enabling a serial communication to create a smart interconnected system between microcontroller and PC was also a good achievement.
What we learned
Use of break beam / distance sensors Beat detection Pygame
What's next for Skwat
The setup could be extended further with more sensors for more exercises. Sounds could be added to the users reps creating an "air drum kit" that a group of people doing exercises could use to play along to songs in community exercise.
