Inspiration
Last quarter, students were left surprised by managing the new slug system which spurred many long lines at the end of the quarter as students were in a rush to spend their slug points. We knew there had to be a better way, so we created SlugBudgeting, an app to make sure you are on track for your spending so you have not have too much or not enough.
What it does
Using an algorithm, It keeps track of how much money you need to spend before the end of the quarter so that you do not have any left. It also provides how many days till the end of the quarter, how many meals the student can have per day, and a calendar laying out the schedule.
How we built it
We worked out a design with Figma to understand what we wanted our website to have in looks and functionality and from there we worked in react utilizing HTML, CSS, Javascript, and material UI to code our website into existence.
Challenges we ran into
We had many different variables to account for which made it difficult to code. Such as when students choose to spend, how many meals per day, and where they spend their money.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of implementing a calendar for the project because initially, it was difficult to do so.
What we learned
We learned new technologies such as React.
What's next for SlugBudget
For future improvements, our plan is to implement more choices and a way to generate multiple different schedules. We also want the checkboxes to be fully functioning.
