Inspiration
Misha wanted to teach Alice mechatronics, and we wanted to stop littering. We're not sure if we succeeded at either.
What it does
It's a trash can that rolls around.
How we built it
We took some cardboard boxes from the trash, put some stepper motors on, cut out wheels freehand, wrote a program in Arduino C++, and connected it all with zip ties and hot glue.
Challenges we ran into
The wheels keep falling off, since they're just hot glued directly to motor shafts. The USB battery we found doesn't have enough current to run all of our motors, and also a servo to open the lid, so we zip tied the lid open. The structure was too flimsy to hold a laptop/real computer, so we didn't use any advanced APIs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It move. Marketing.
What we learned
Alice learned how to use Arduino with no prior experience, including digital and analog I/O, servo, and stepper motors.
What's next for Snashcan
It's going in the snash.
