Inspiration

We were inspired personally as we have elderly grandparents who need to use the disability parking and it makes it much easier to have an app that can make it very easy to find the parking spot. Furthermore, we have faced the issue as university students who drive to campus to reach class on time and end up wasting 30 minutes and missing our lectures sometimes important tests. For that reason we wanted to save the time to find parking reduce the pressure while driving and overall make the community a safer place.

What it does

SpotCheck is a prototype of a smart parking assistant app that shows real-time availability of open spaces. It aims to reduce time wasted looking for parking and increase access to high-demand areas, especially for accessibility needs.

How we built it

We built a full-stack prototype using React Native and FastAPI, simulating the functionality of a real-time parking data flow.

Challenges we ran into

We explored various large language model APIs and faced challenges with data availability and integration, eventually settling on a setup that allowed us to simulate backend interaction and real-time responses.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built and demoed a working UI with a parking availability simulator, and explored integration of smart camera systems with backend APIs to generate real-time availability data.

What we learned

We learned a lot along the way!
