Inspiration

The tech industry is heavily dominated by men. Not only in the workforce is that evident but even the amount of STEM degrees that women and nonbinary individuals have earned is only about ~25% of all the tech-related degrees earned in the US. This network gives its users the chance to find other people like them before or as they're joining the tech workforce.

What it does

Users are able to find connections and mentorship based on where they received their education, what companies they've worked at or wish to work at, and the particular work title.

How we built it

We built Stars Networks using Figma and Visual Studio Code. We divided the work as some of us worked on the front-end creating prototypes in Figma and while the others then put it into code in VS Code

Challenges we ran into

We were limited in the number of features we could include in our minimum viable product (MVP). We also had some challenges incorporating our front-end work to the back-end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even though it was only two of us working on this project, we worked well together and leaned into our strengths. We created an app that can help bridge the gap in the tech industry by encouraging more women and nonbinary individuals to enter this field and help them succeed after college.

What we learned

We learned new skills in Figma and utilized the resources available in the Figma community.

What's next for Stars Network

We hope to add more features to our app possibly add a resources section that can help users learn new skills.
